Brandon Simpson, Sr.

1991-2022

November 6, 1991 – Brandon, a brother, father, beloved son, and partner, went to be with the lord on 7/18/2022. Brandon cherished his family, his son and his pets. He loved dirt bike riding, camping, fishing and being out on the water. He was a heavy equipment operator at our family business for over 17 years. 
He will be forever missed. He leaves behind his son, Brandon A. Simpson Jr., his fiancé, Stephanie Carlson, his Mother and Father, Danny and Christy Simpson, brothers, Dan & Melissa Simpson, Michael Simpson, nieces, Kaylie & Macy Simpson and nephew, Landon Simpson, Grandparents, Dawn Simpson, Polly & Jim Carlson, Aunts, Debbie (Howard) Brown, April (Rocky) Brisbois, Sjeabon Simpson, Uncles, Rod Simpson Jr., and John Carlson, along with many loved, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. 
Brandon was preceded in death by, Grandfather Glenn Simpson, Grandpa Mike Near, Aunts Sharon Comenote, Renee Simpson, Kim Simpson and Mary Kay Maltos, Cousin Bridgette Simpson and brother Jason Porembski.

Paul Eric Shay Jr.

July 6, 2000 – June 29, 2022

Paul Eric Shay Jr., 21, of Tulalip, WA passed away June 29, 2022. He was born July 6,, 2000 in Edmonds, WA to Paul and Nicole Shay. He graduated from Heritage High School where he played basketball., He was on a championship team that went to State. He was a sports junkie, knowing stats of all the players at eight years old. Was a coach and mentor for youth basketball. He was loved wherever he went and he treated everyone as family.

He was survived by his great grandfather, Richard Muir Sr.; great grandmother, Elizabeth Penn; grandparent’s Richard Muir Jr. (2 Dogs) and Teena Muir, and Kim and David Golden; siblings, Cierra (Trevor) Fryberg, Dalton (Brittney) Shay, Mason (Ayla) Shay, and Kendall Hayward; Nephews, Dylan Shay, Madex Fryberg; and niece Violet Fryberg; the love his life, Ariel Ellenwood; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Paul Shay Sr. (Spooky); great grandmother Donna Muir; and grandmother Deanna Van Doorn. He was also preceded in death by his special brother, Jayden Brashears.

Rose M. Buck

Sunrise: August 8, 1965 Sunset: June 30, 2022

The family of Rose Marie Buck regretfully announce that Rose passed away on June 30, 2022 at her home in La Conner WA.

Rose was brought up Seven Drum and was a member of the Spee-Bi-Dah Drum Group. She also danced Fancy and Team Dancing when she wasn’t singing on the drum. Rose leaves behind her mother Judi Patrick, siblings Marvin Edwards, JoAnn Begay (Landry), Francis Williams Sr. (Sugar Bill), children Gerry Williams, Michael Likakur, Tah-Sheena Williams, Charlene Williams. Preceding Rose in death are Bernard Williams Jr., Roberta Suppah, Baby boy Williams, Clarissa Williams, Bernard Williams III. Rose will come home to Tulalip for interment.

Merle Allen Hayes Jr.

Merle Allen Hayes Jr., the son of Margorie Hayes and Merle Allen Hayes Sr. 

Born on January 3, 1948, in Tulalip, WA. He passed away on June 12, 2022, at the age of 80. 

Merle Hayes was a Suquamish Tribal Elder, who spent his life living on the Suquamish land. He retired from the Suquamish Tribal fisheries department in 2017, where he had spent two decades as a Fisheries Policy Liaison for the department. Merle was a respected fisherman and spent many years on the water, both of his sons followed in his footsteps with his guidance to become fishermen themselves. 

Merle shared his knowledge of both the water and land with all. His life passion and dedication were based on protecting the Tribe’s treaty rights and respect for the salmon. Merle was recognized by the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission for his outstanding work to uphold the Sovereignty treaty rights and natural resources by receiving the Billy Frank Jr Leadership Award in 2018. 

The entire community, as well as many other tribal communities, will mourn Merle, as he was an “Uncle” to all. 

He is survived by his children Bernadette “Bernie” Hayes Abuan, Elaina Rose Hayes, Holli Hayes, Mia Hayes Bennington, and Bonita Hayes Palafox (Jacob). His sister’s Margaret Henry-Hayes, Rose Wade, Nina Holten, Susan Martin, and Teresa Jones. His Brother Ernie McBride (Kimberly). His grandchildren Merle Allen Hayes IV, Dominick Daniel Hayes, Wade Abuan Jr., Neil Abuan, Margaret Abuan, Alice Abuan, Sjeabon Simpson, Cortney Solomon, Cierra Solomon, Daniel McLean, Christina Hayes (Dennis), Shyanne Hayes, Dakota Hayes (Savannah), Vanessa Hayes, Ateesha Elliot (Isaac), Gabriella Hayes, Javarie Hayes Ford, Mykai Hayes, Aliyha Jade Palafox, Bianca Cali Palafox, Jacobo Cruz Palafox. As well as many loving great-grandchildren, family, and lifelong friends. 

He is preceded by his parents, Merle Hayes Sr, Margorie Hayes, his brother Warren Hayes, and his sons Merle Allen Hayes III and Carnegie Hayes. His daughter Tamara “Tammy” Hayes, Granddaughters Sophia Solomon, and Victoria Russell. As well as many loved ones he held dearly to his heart.

Cyrus H. WIlliams

November 23, 1942 – May 31, 2022

The family of Cyrus H. Williams regretfully informs the community that Cy passed away at home with his loving wife at his side. Cy was a very proud United States Marine and an enrolled member of The Tulalip Tribes. Cy and his wife, Thelma, were married on June 8th of 1974. Together, they raised eight children. Later in life, Cy was blessed to be able to welcome another son into his life. Cy was preceded in death by his father Bernard Williams Sr, his mother June Henry, brothers Randy E. Williams Sr. and Bernard Williams Jr, and three children named: Cheryl Bagley, Lynda Bagley and Matthew Williams. Left behind are his wife Thelma Williams, two sons named George Kekumu and Timothy Williams, and four daughters named Terri Bagley, Cyrena Williams, Leslie Bagley and Jamie Bagley. Arrangements by Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home and The Tulalip Tribes. Services are to be held on June the 7th of 2022 at The Tulalip Gathering Hall at 10:00 am with interment to follow at the Mission Beach Cemetery also in Tulalip WA.

John Eaglefeather Enick

May 23, 1977 – May 12, 2022

John Eaglefeather Enick(JJ) was born May 23,1977 to G.John Enick Jr and Janice Elaine Bill, he went to be with the lord on May 12th, 2022. He was 44 years old. While he was here he loved to watch wrestling, he was a die hard Seahawks fan, some things he loved was to collect and attend movies, travel to summer and winter Pow wows, barbecues, cook and bake with his loved ones, long drives and walking on the beach with his fur baby, bowling, he loved to joke around and have a good laugh. He worked for TRC as a table games dealer also he was a dishwasher, He leaves behind his mate Jodie Brown, his children fur babie Millie Enick, sons, Dennis Enick/Billy, Nelson Billy, Daughter Tayla Enick/ Billy, sisters Alisa Youcton (Anthony), Karlene Bill (Francis Sr.) Maggie Finkbonner, brothers C. Kurtis Enick, Roman Enick (Teresa), John George IV, Travis Rodriguez, nieces and nephews Sarah,Tela, Mckenze,Tyron & Emma Youcton, Sophelia, Marilyn,Thomas and Francis Williams Jr. Clinton Kurtis Jr., Bobbie Jones, Taleen Enick, Addison Enick & Dylan Enick/ Horne, he was preceded in death by sister Leanne Enick, Nephew Raymeanus Williams, niece Theresa Williams and uncle Michael Enick, first cousin Isaac Bill. He loved all of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own.

Anita Rodgers

April 4, 1948 – April 18, 2022

Anita Rodgers, 74 of Tulalip passed away April 18, 2022.
She was born April 4, 1948 in Everett, WA to Joseph Pacheco and Magdalen “Oudy” Cladoosby. She received her flight attendant license in 1998 from the International Air Academy. She worked as a cook for the Tulalip Montessori. She was a traditional tribal dancer, traveling with her grandfather, Ernest Cladoosby to various Pow Pows. She liked to dance and go on road trips and camping with her children and grandchildren.. She liked Karaoke She loved her cats. She loved to go shopping and going to yard sales. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a master at making fry bread. She was a very giving and compassionate person.
She is survived by her three sons, Joe Henry, Vince Henry, and Rick Henry; grandchildren, Joe, Jerry, Brandon, Dustin, Anthony, Taylor, and Jasmin; and numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Monger, Chuck Vassar, Lucinda Cladoosby, Mark Monger, and Rose Webb. She was preceded in death by husband, Randy Rodgers, her parents; her sister Tina Pacheco; brothers Darryle and Joseph Pacheco; and her nephew Nathan; and her daughter-in-law Loulou..

Dean Vince Markishtum

April 22, 1965 – April 14, 2022

Born in Tacoma, WA April 22, 1965 to Yvonne Johnson and Turk Markishtum. He is an enrolled tribal member of The Makah Nation, grew up in Oahu, Hawaii and Seattle, WA where he graduated from Franklin High school. He then went on to pursue a career in Construction for over 30+ Years. He began his career with Tulalip Tribes in 2007 as maintenance and security officer, he’s always been a hard worker from home improvements to work, building and applying every skill to his everyday life. Dean was a huge golf, Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan, he went to games, collected jerseys and rearranged his schedule to watch every game. He took pride in every vehicle he ever owned and invested in each one, loved to keep them clean and running well. 
He is survived by his wife of 22 years Jennifer Markishtum, his children Justine (Josh), Dean, and Steven (Rhonnalee) Markishtum, Marc (Tiffany) Robinson, Sheena (Martin) Robinson, Carissa Robinson, and Cyrus (AnaMaria) Williams, special niece/daughter Yvonne Markishtum. Siblings Debbie (Billy) Ancheta, Sean Esperas, Dwight Esperas, Terry Markishtum. Grandkids Grayson Gombosky, Tracen Aria and Bentley Markishtum, Hannah and Faith Apperson, Kaeson, Eliza, Keoni, Tehya, Mekiyen, Elysia, Marcis Robinson, Nayeli and Kaycee Moddejonge-Williams.
Dean is proceeded in death by his mother Yvonne (Tom) Johnson, Fathers Turk Markishtum and Ed Esperas and brother Stanley Markishtum.

Patricia “Pat” Marie Cuellar

March 11, 1944 – April 12, 2022

Patricia “Pat” Marie Cuellar , 78 of Tulalip passed away April 12, 2022.
She was born March 11, 1944 in Monroe, Washington to Morris and Hilda Feller.
She was a traveler and raised her children through thick and thin. Pat loved her siblings and grandchildren very much. She loved her wiener dogs and took them everywhere. Pat was so happy when she would see her family and friends, she greeted everyone with a smile and a hug. Pat enjoyed shopping and buying gifts for her grandchildren, she was thoughtful and made sure she told her grandchildren she was always thinking of them. She is survived by her life mate of 30 years Cory Wentz; sons Troy Carlson and Leslie “Will” Martin; sisters Dorothy Frahm, Sharon Mark, Lorraine Hill, Dulcie Walters, Mary Watson; grandchildren, Leticia, Jesse, Amado, Malia, Cassius; great-grandchildren, Elenor, Aleysha, and Ramona. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joseph Williams, Ken Feller, sister Lorretta “Candy” Martin, daughter Leilani DeLeon.

Daisha Renee Angelica Smith-Spencer

May 21, 2001 – March 29, 2022

Daisha Renee Angelica Smith-Spencer. Age 20 yrs. old . My Baby Girl Was taken way too early by the Creator, on Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 in Tulalip, Wa. Daisha was born May 21st in Everett Wa. She spent her entire life on Tulalip Reservation. Our Beautiful Daisha is survived by her Mom, Misty Smith, her 2nd Dad, Rusty Loera, Sisters, Marynn, Eliana, Avaughnei, Brothers, Cristian, Aiden, Liam, Solomon Jr.(Bobos). Grandparents, Betty Smith, Rosemarie RunningWater, Vivian Spencer, Joseph Walthrup, Auntie’s, Michelle Henricksen (Jimmy), Tara Spencer, Rosie Deen (Ian), Kerri Deen and Uncle Ben Deen (Sereana).

Daisha was preceded in death by her daddy, Solomon Spencer Sr. (Botch), Her precious sister Amelia Spencer, Uncle Antonio Spencer Sr., Grandpa Kenneth Smith, Wayne Hatch (Papa), her Niece, Holly Henricksen.

Daisha Renee you will be Dearly Missed. Her personality was one of a kind, She lit up every room she walked into with her beautiful Smile. Her laugh was so contagious you couldn’t help but laugh with her.

Funeral will be Tuesday, April 5th, 2022 at the Tulalip Gathering Hall, 7512 Totem Beach Road, Tulalip, Wa, at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.
