October 29, 1943 – June 6, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of John Richard McCoy share his passing at the age of 79 on June 6, 2023. John had multiple health issues which he battled through every day for several years; and he died in his home surrounded by family at their residence located on the Tulalip Indian Reservation near Marysville Washington. 
John had many roles in his life and it was noted by his daughter Angela McCoy that each of those roles were a lifetime in themselves, most notable as the Chair of the Democratic Caucus with the Washington State Senate.
John was born in 1943 on the Tulalip Indian Reservation, he married his childhood friend and companion Jeannie McKay in 1965 and raised three daughters.
John was a 1961 graduate of El Capitan High School in Lakeside, CA. 
John’s career began with commercial fishing in Puget Sound until he enlisted in the Air Force where he served for 20 years. Upon retiring as a Technical Sergeant (E-6) from his last duty station at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, he was immediately recruited by UNISYS to continue his government work as a Computer Programmer, and he was assigned to staff the Reagan White House situation room.
Stan Jones, then-Chairman of Tulalip Tribes, actively recruited John to return home to the reservation to pursue economic development. Indian gaming had commenced and the Tribes were struggling to adapt and build the infrastructure necessary for this powerful new form of economic development. John’s contributions to the development of Quil Ceda Village and infrastructure gained national recognition for his innovation, stewardship and stellar success within the Tulalip Indian Reservation.
John was bestowed with an Honorary Master of Public Administration degree, and recognized as the 2020 Public Official of the Year by the Master of Public Administration program of The Evergreen State College.
John served as Washington State Legislator from 2003 to 2020, first as a Representative and then as a Senator, representing the 38th Legislative District (Everett / Marysville / Tulalip). He was elected by his colleagues to serve as the chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus in 2016. 
Survived by his spouse Jeannie (McKay) McCoy, his wife of 58 years, children Angela McCoy, Sheila (Jim) Hillaire, and Cara (Darrell) Tohannie; sisters Carolyn (Kevin) Gerhart and Marianne (Keith) Blatt, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and cousins, especially Lavinia Carpenter and Coralyne Rose.
Preceded in death by his father MCBM John Richard “Dick” McCoy, US Navy retired, his mother, Jennie (Freda) McCoy, brother Michael McCoy, and sister Antoinette McCoy Koeth, and his infant daughter, Catherine McCoy
A public memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the Tulalip Gathering Hall at 6:00 p.m. and Monday, June 12, 2023, at the Tulalip Resort Casino Orca Ballroom at 9:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of the Senator McCoy Scholarship, The Evergreen State College scholarship fund. Arrangements entrusted to Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville.

JUNE 1, 1999 – MAY 12, 2023

Gilbert Eugene Moses III, 23 of Tulalip passed away on May 12, 2023 in Everett, WA.

He was born June 1, 1999 in Warm Springs, OR to Gilbert Eugene Moses Jr and Monica Alleen Wahnetah. He was raised by his grandparents and his father in Tulalip, Enjoyed playing his PlayStation and going to the mountains with his grandparents, He read a lot of books. He worked at the “QCC” and the Buzz Inn.

He is survived by his father, Gilbert Moses Jr; his mother Monica Wahnetah; siblings, Tarly Florendo, Nicole Wahnetah, Kari Wahnetah, Irmah Wahnetah, Briann Tewee-Wahnetah, Lindsey Tewee-Wahnetah ; great aunts Johanna, Rachel, April and Julie, Vicki, and Teresa,; great uncle, Daniel; aunts Sylvia (Robert) Myers and Arnel (Alan) Williams; grandmother, Kate Jackson; and numerous cousins.

An evening service will be Monday, May 22, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Tulalip Gathering Hall with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

NOVEMBER 6, 2022 – MAY 11, 2023

Sweet little Vienna Elita Ruiz went home to be with our father on Thursday May 11th, 2023 while she peacefully slept. Though we may not understand this unimaginable loss, her spirit will continue to live on through the hearts she touched during her 6 precious months here on earth.

February 17, 1955 – April 8, 2023 

Marlys Diane Dover, 68 of Everett passed away April 8, 2023.
She was born Feb. 17, 1955 in Everett, WA to Charles and Jean Weldon. She grew up in Lake Stevens. She graduated from Lake Stevens High School. She married William Dover on Oct. 25, 1982 in Lake Stevens. They had two beautiful daughters, Carly and Courtney. She loved reading and her dream was to own a book store.

She is survived by her two daughters, Carly (Elliot Jenkins) Dover and Courtney Hymer; sisters Janet Butler and Bonnie Fortner; 3 grandchildren Zoe, Emery, and Castile, She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brother Kenneth Jensen.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

DECEMBER 29, 1949 – APRIL 29, 2023

Marvin Nobe smith of the Nex-Perce Tribe residing in Tulalip,

was born December 29 1949 to jack Smith and Irene Scott and passed away April 29 2023 Marvin Nobe Smith was a brilliant man that had mastered in fishing and hunting He never hesitated to help his fellow Fisherman with hanging their nets, fixing their boats and motors He also enjoyed the outdoors such as hunting and camping with his wife and two sons Merle hayes and Carnegie hayes along with numerous grandchildren and nephews He and his wife enjoyed spending time with the senior program going on trips and attending bingo day He’s survived by his wife April Smith, his daughter Paulette Smith, and Bernadette Hayes, siblings Janice Smith, Anna Ziegler, Elizabeth Murillo, Adrian Ziegler, numerous grandchildren, special nieces and nephews great grandchildren.

An evening service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 6:00 PM at the Tulalip Gathering Hall. A celebration of his life will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at the Tulalip Gathering Hall with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.

October 24, 1985 – Ivarra April 26, 2023

Sarah Ivarra, 37 of Tulalip passed away April 26, 2023 at home.
She was born Oct. 24, 1985 to Gilbert and Myrna Ivarra in Everett, WA. She graduated from high school in 2004. S traveling especially to Texas to see her dad. She enjoyed her Native American culture. Her life revolved around her children, mother, and uncle Cy. She liked her job at the Security Pallet Shelter. 
She is survived by her children, Olivia and Daisy; her parents, Gilbert Ivarra, and Myrna Pacheco; her uncle Cy; aunts Marilyn, Juanita, Elizabeth, and Tina; siblings, Travis, David,Christina, Cyrus, Eli, Alicia, Vanessa, Elsa, Gil Jr, and Katelee.
An evening service will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 6:00 pm at the Tulalip Gathering Hall. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, at 10:00 am at the Tulalip Gathering Hall with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.

July 26, 1956 – March 26, 2023

Patrick Joseph Alexander became our ancestor on March 26, 2023. Born in Everett, WA on July 26, 1956 and was a proud member of The Tulalip Tribes. He spent his life surrounded by love from his numerous nieces and nephews. Uncle Pat loved to teach kids how to bead and play basketball. He enjoyed riding his bike. Pat was always willing to help others and sat with our dear loved ones the night before their burials on many occasions. 
He painted the thunderbird on the Marysville High School.
His surviving family members are His siblings are: brother Maurice Alexander Jr., sister Maureen (Richard Denver) Alexander, brother Francis (Regina) Alexander, brother David (Nanette) Alexander. Nieces and nephews are: Carlee Jones, Maureen Enick, Philip Alexander Jr., Ginger Enick, Joseph Alexander, Crystal Alexander, Shawnee Sheldon, Courtney Jefferson, and Philip Alexander III. 
Pat is preceded in death by mother Patricia L. Williams (Tulalip) & father Maurice Alexander Sr. (Lummi Nation). Brother Phillip Alexander Sr. (Tulalip) 
Services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the Tulalip Gathering Hall at 10am. His final resting place will be the Tulalip Mission Beach Cemetery.

May 13, 1993 – March 3, 2023 

Santiago went on to be with our creator on 03/03/2023, at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA. He left behind his Mother Aliana Diaz, Stepmother Chandell Diaz. Siblings Gloria Warner, Michael Warner, Charles Warner and Anthony Herod. Santiago had many talents he was passionate about, such as drawing, playing the flute and basketball. We will miss his contagious laugh, beautiful smile, limitless love, uplifting spiritand giving personality. He was preceded in death by his step-father Jonathan Warner.

September 29, 1987 – March 5, 2023

Tulalip Tribal member, Lydia Mae Lahela Hinsee went to be with the lord March 5th, 2023. She was born to Holliday Hayes and Samuel F. K. Hinsee on September 29th 1987, in Everett, WA. Lydia loved posting her MUOTD (makeup of the day) and playing Pokemon Go where she met her love Sam, the father of her one and only miracle baby Taylor (Tay Tay). Tay Tay was the light of her life, her rainbow baby whom she waited 14 years for. She always updated family and friends about her pregnancy journey and baby milestones on social media for everyone to adore.

She loved collecting LOL Dolls, mini brands , shopkins and squishmallows. She loved binge watching her favorite tv shows and staying up late to talk with her sisters. She enjoyed playing her favorite slots and playing bingo with her family. She also loved photographing scenery. Her motherly instinct was strong, always taking care of numerous babies including her siblings.

Lydia leaves behind her Parents Holliday & Antonio, Daughter Taylor, Son Sammy. Siblings Wanda (Ryan), June, Lola, Jaelarae, Kayden/Alex, Avaughnei and Akela (KeKe) Special sisters Layla, Denise, Jessica Bustad,Teresa, Selena (Walla Walla) and Brother Calvin (Cali-Cal). Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Second mom’s and Nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Father Samuel F. K. Hinsee, Dad Ronald J. Horne Sr., Great Grandma Marjorie Lydia Henry Hayes, Grandparents Warren and Wanda (Williams) Hayes, Jo Landert and Walter Steinbach, Merle Hayes II, Uncle Victor Nelson Sr. , Brother Troy D. Bradford, Special nephew Kiyaire Leeoni Wilson Flores. And many other family and friends.

An evening service will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Tulalip Gathering Hall. A celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Tulalip Gathering Hall with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

Donna C. September 19, 1946 – Ancheta-Martinez February 12, 2023 Donna C. Ancheta-Martinez, 76 of Denver, CO, passed away February 12, 2023.
She was born Sept. 19, 1946 in Seattle, WA to Perfecto Ancheta and Louise Paul-Ancheta. She grew up in Seattle. She married Hank Martinez on August 16, 2004 in Denver, CO. In 2005 she reunited with her family in Seattle,
She is survived by her husband, Hank (Honey-bunch) Martinez; children, Amy, Steven, Judy; siblings, Ronnie, Dorothy, Billy, John and David; grandchildren, Colette, Dustin, and Kyrie; and aunt Donna Paul. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Jeff; and siblings, Joseph, Phillip, Susan, and Vernon,
