Charles “Dennis” Hudson, 57 was born March 11, 1958, to Theodore Hudson and Loretta Lee Young-Contraro in Forks, Washington. He passed away February 18, 2016, in Portland, Ore. Dennis was a fisherman most of his life. He worked in maintenance at the Tulalip Bingo and for housing in Hoh River. He loved to drive near and far. Dennis lived his life as a traveling man spending time in both Hoh River and Tulalip, Wash. He is known and loved by many up and down the coast and would visit as many as he could fit into one day. Wherever he was he would spend time at the water getting lost in the moment, listening to the water and watching the eagles soar above. He leaves behind his three daughters: Ginger, Tashina, and Nicole; lifelong friend, Patti Ann; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson, Ayden Charles (his birthday present because they shared the same birthday); brother, David (howee-shata) (Barb); sisters, Martina Hudson and Alexandria (Pumkin); numerous nieces and nephews in Hoh River and Tulalip; and his significant other, Josie Fryberg-Birdwell and family. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 25, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

 

Sharon had become very sick and left us to be with the Lord and her family in heaven early the morning of January 18, 2016.

She was born in Everett, Wash. to Cyrus B. Hatch Jr. and Emily Ann Beatty (both deceased), she was the oldest of six children. Sharon is preceded in death by her sister, Holly (Hatch) Jones, brother, Wayne Hatch and grandson, Jaylen Ray Fryberg.

Sharon is survived by her siblings, Cyrus Hatch III, Marilyn Flores and Myrna Pacheco; and her four children: Wendy Fryberg, Corey Morken, Jesse Chavez and Samantha Chavez.

Sharon was born and raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High School. She always focused her life around what was most important to her, family and education. Sharon was so proud to have a long career working for the BIA and to later retire as the Executive Administrative Assistant from Quil Ceda Village in Tulalip. Sharon received her Bachelor’s Degree from Evergreen State College and was very proud of this accomplishment. Family was Sharon’s pride and joy and her first priority, as she was the backbone for everyone. She always made time for others although she arrived in her own time to each occasion and was known as the favorite auntie. Sharon had many favorite things but she was most known for taking pictures. She always wanted each beautiful moment to be captured and saved as a memory, which she did with all her scrapbooking. She also had a newfound interest and passion for learning to quilt.

Sharon was proud of being a mom and always made sure her children knew that. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and all her special nieces and nephews who came to visit her often. Sharon had a beautiful soul and she had a place for everyone in her heart. She loved everyone without judgement and only showed kindness. She will be missed greatly and will always be remembered for what she did for others.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016, at 1:00 – 2 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Tribal Gym. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Tribal Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

 

William “Bill” Wold Dunn passed away peacefully on January 1, 2016, in Medford, Oregon.

He was born on the Tulalip Reservation on January 30, 1927. Bill grew up in Washington and graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1944. He served in the Merchant Marines and in the US Army. Bill owned Wold Logging Company in in Hoopa, CA for many years.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Wold; his father, Sam Wold Sr.; his mother, Beatrice Dunn Wold; his brother, Sam Wold Jr.; his uncle, Daniel Brudevold Sr.; and his beloved grandmother, Joanna Sheldon.

Bill loved being outdoors; logging, fishing; trap-shooting; and taking road trips. He was fond of singing Johnny Cash songs. His favorite saying when he wanted a kiss on the cheek was “give me some sugar.”

A visitation will be held Friday, January 15, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith Service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 10:00 a.m at the Tulalip Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery where he will be laid next to his brother, Sam. Resided in Tulalip, Wash. for the past 21 years before moving there from Lummi, Wash. She was born and raised in Seattle, Wash. Born August 9, 1957, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Entered to Rest on December 27, 2015.

Muffy was a childcare worker most of her life. She really enjoyed watching and caring for other babies and children by spoiling them and sending them home to their parents – that was her Motto!!!!! Muffy was a trooper! She had suffered with pain most of her life, being diagnosed at the young age of eight with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and having to deal with pain of fluid building up on her knees. It soon continued to reach her hips and spine which lead to requiring surgeries to Hip replacement. The doctors also discovered three of her vertebrae fusing and growing together within her upper neck, making it difficult for Muffy to physically hold her head up straight with limited motion of turning her head. This was diagnosed as Rheumatoid Ankylosing Spondylitis. Yet despite the diagnosis,this did not stop her from holding her head up high with loads of smiles, like there was nothing wrong even though pain was a consistent part of her life.

In 2009, she was also given the prognosis of having Nasopharyngeal Cancer. She began chemotherapy and the occasional radiation treatments to deal with it. She had her up and down moments throughout the years… sometimes not needing treatment at all! Yet on October 21, 2015, she was informed by the doctors that no more treatments could be done, and the Cancer had taken over some of her organs. Who but her family would have known that she suffered throughout her life in pain not only because of the cancer, but with the arthritis. She walked through life with joy and pride. Ailments did not dictate anything less than a Powerful and Generous woman.

She was always on the go somewhere and with her “kids” aka Montessori or tribal extended family… as we all know Muffy didn’t have any children of her own. She chose the easy way of having “Kids” by letting others give birth to them, and she gladly babysat and toted them with her everywhere. What a great babysitter/Auntie she was to so many within the community! Being the Trooper and Strong-willed soul…Muffy began making her own arrangements for her journey on to Paradise of the Afterlife. She wanted to make sure it would be an easy transition for her surviving siblings and family. She made sure that her puppies would be taken care of. As many of you know, Cruz was her first dog, and she will be taking Cruz’s ashes with her on her Journey. She made sure her surviving Baby Reeses will be well taken care of and going to a good home within the family. She was an amazing lady thinking of others, and offering her help within the tribal community.

She is survived by her sisters, Marcelina “Lena” (Cubby) Martin, Monica “Monie” Ordonia, Connie (Cliff) Matteson; her brothers, Melition “William” (Coco) Ordonia, as well as David and Joe Fernandes. Muffy has numerous nieces and nephews as well as many many extended nieces and nephews throughout the Tulalip community and beyond.

Visitation will be Monday, January 4, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

 

“The Dog” Leonard Daniel Charley, “The Dog” was born March 2, 1952, and passed away December 20, 2015, in the year of our Lord.

He was born and raised in Everett, Washington. He graduated from Everett High School and served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn; four children, Donna, Les, Trina, and Tracy; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of Leonard’s life at 11:00 a.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home

 

“Looks Twice” Mar. 2, 1961 – Dec. 16, 2015 Shannon was born in Everett, Wash. on March 2, 1961 and went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2015.

She grew up on the Tulalip Indian Reservation where she was also an enrolled tribal member. She was a very well respected Native artist. She did beautiful beadwork, paint, sculpted, crocheted, carved, basket weaved, and she was a very good tattoo artist. She was a den mother to a lot of young people who came to her not only for an ear to listen but for advice as well. She was easily called mom to many. Her most recent favorite pastime was spending it with her grandkids, either making clothes for her granddaughter or her dolls. Building stuff with her grandsons with their Legos or giving them “secret” missions playing Army. She really enjoyed watching all her grandkids practice their Taekwondo.

She has four children with her first husband, Louie Pablo Jr., Louie Pablo III, Colette (Tommy) Kaula, Charlo. Five grandchildren, Aaron, Nico, Echo, Louie, Jarome. She has seven siblings, Gary, Lisa (Lisa) Rocky, Miles, Shawna, Shirley, and Pat.

She is preceded in death by her son, Louie III; her mother, Jeanie; her brother, Rocky; and grandmother Helen. She leaves behind her father, Alvie; and her biological father, Ernie; and numerous cousins and friends. Shannon will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will be Monday, December 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Interfaith service will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Tribal Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

 

Joan Marie Duplessis, neé Campbell, was born at the Old Tulalip Indian Hospital on the Tulalip Reservation on September 13, 1937. She lived much of her life in Fullerton, Calif. In 2004, she returned back to The Tulalip Reservation to be amongst her family.

Joan was very social and loved to be surrounded by people. Joan was an enrolled member of The Tulalip Tribes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Duplessis Sr.; her mother, Katherine ‘Caty’ Campbell of Tulalip, Wash. her father, William G. Campbell; her two brothers, Russell ‘Gubby’ Campbell, and Donald Campbell, and sister, Sandra Bodendick (Jim) of Tulalip.

She is survived by her three sisters: Jeanette Dudnick of Anaheim, Calif., Helen Campbell of Tulalip, and Katherine Elliot of Tacoma, Wash.; three brothers, Walter Campbell of Tulalip, John Thunderbird Campbell (Kara) of Tulalip, and Charlie Campbell (Sue) of Tulalip; three sons, Nicholas Campbell (Faye Allen) of Tacoma, Bernard Duplessis Jr. (Sandra) of Tulalip and William Duplessis of Fullerton; and seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; Joan’s smile, love and laugh were contagious. She will be dearly missed.

A one-day Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at The Schaefer-Shipman Funeral home, 804 State Avenue, Marysville, WA 98271. A dinner will be served following the service at the Tulalip Tribal Gym. Joan will be returned to California and will be set to rest next to her husband, Bernard Duplessis Sr. She will be laid to rest at Loma Vista Mortuary, 701 E. Bastanchury Road, Fullerton, CA 98235.

 

Michael Dean Proo passed away October 5^th, 2015 at the age of 42. Michael was born in the bay area, San Leandro California on August 10^th 1973. His parents were Max Proo and Carolyn Oliver. Grandparents were Margaret and Dale Holmes.

Michael Moved to Reno Nevada where he lived for the past 18 years with the love of his life Keena Jackson; where they raised their daughter Keisha they enjoyed family time. Michael was all about family and friends his love and passion was cooking and football. His teams were the Raiders and the Oakland A’s and he was proud to represent the bay. He always enjoyed cooking for family and friends he loved to welcome people with his food and laughter and his great sense of humor. He was always making people laugh!

He enjoyed shooting guns, music, sporting events, and concerts, Michael had a love for life. His brother Dennis and him had a unique brotherly love which involved teasing, joking and always getting one up on the other. Their games would always leave you laughing along with them. Michael will be greatly missed by all who loved him!

Michael is survived by Keena Jackson; and their daughter Keisha; his mother Carolyn Oliver and Dennis P. Two brothers Dennis Sarina and Steven Proo. Grandmother Susanna; Aunties Cecile Hansen and Charlene Loback; Uncles Ernie, Phillip, Mario, Michael, Gabriel, and Angel Proo; Mother In-law Jan Gardipe; Father In-law Ted Jackson; Sister in-law Lisa and Kelly Townsend; Sister In-law Kelly and Dave Turner; Niece Deidra Proo and great Niece Dakota Proo; Special Cousins; Devin, Jay, Marc, Martin Napeahi; Marvin, Jeff, Melissa Velazquez, Katrina Lane. He was preceded in death by his Father Max Proo

 

Cecil Lacy Jr., was born June 10, 1965, in Everett, Wash., went to be with his Dad and sister “C.C” on September 18, 2015.

Early on in life Jr’s intellect revealed itself, school was as simple as showing up. Without even cracking open a book he earned A’s and B’s. Jr then became a commercial fisherman; he loved to be on the water. He also worked with Tulalip Recreation for several years; He enjoyed taking the kids on trips to the rivers and mountains; Jr always made time for our youth. Jr’s passion for free speech was evident throughout his life; he was a published writer and poet. Jr used his strong writing skills to help community members who suffered from injustices.

Jr leaves behind his wife, Sara Lacy; daughters: Monique Lacy, and Cecile Lacy; sons: Ian Cooper, Tim Anderson, Trevor Anderson; grandchildren, Jonny and Caitlin; mother, Joy Lacy; sister, Shelly Lacy; brother, Harvey Eastman; aunt and uncles: Stan and Joanne Jones, Virginia Lartenter, Dawn and Glen Simpson, Alpheus and Millie Jones, Dale and Barbara Jones, Marvin Jones, Richard and Gloria Jones, Delmar and Bev Jones, George and Sadie Lacy, Maxine Jackson (Texas); sisters, and brothers-in-law: Laura and Bruce Fall, Kristen and Mark Stout, John and Sandra Cooper; nieces and nephews: Jerad (Virginia) Eastman, Marysa (Adam) Eastman, Joylee Lacy, Jacob Fall, Rebecca Morales, Daniel Stout, Eric Fall, Laura Stout, Leah Walker, Johnathan Cooper, Emma Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Cecil Lacy Sr.; sister, Cecile Eastman; father-in-law, Jim Cooper; grandparents: George and Luella Jones, George and Maggie Lacy, and Cecil Lacy; special aunts: Lippy and Laverne; and his daughter Monique Lacy’s mother, Kate.

Visitation services will be held Thursday, September 24, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. at Schaefer-Shipman. Funeral services will be held in the Tulalip Gym on Friday, September 25, 2015, at 10 a.m. with burial to follow. –
