Raymond Cassimere Moses (1930 – 2017)

 

“TE-AT-MUS” February 20, 1930-March 2, 2017 Honorable Korean Veteran, passed away March 2, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born February 20, 1930 to loving parents Marya Jones-Moses and Walter Moses Sr. He was a Member of the Tulalip Tribes. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1950. In high school he joined the National Guard. In the heat of summer, he would travel to Yakima for training. His brother, Walter Moses Jr., soon followed in his footsteps. In 1950 he enlisted in the US Army serving in the Korean War with his brother (who lost his life). He was awarded the Purple Heart and many other medals. After serving he would always say “I know I’m going to Heaven, because I’ve already been to hell”. After being Honorably discharged, he came home and worked as a commercial fisherman with his cousin, Bernie Gobin and then with his mother. Through his life he worked many other jobs, cutting shake boards, logging, Welco Lumber Co., Tulalip ground maintenance, where he kept the Tulalip Cemeteries’ beautiful. And finally as Tribal Historian because he wanted to share his culture and teachings to the children. He was requested by many schools to go and teach the history of our people. He loved to travel to the mountains, play bingo, go to the casinos and attend pow-wows. He enjoyed watching and going to sporting events. Most of all he loved teasing the ladies! He is survived by sisters, Johanna Moses, Rachel Hood, April Smith, Julie Russell, Vickie Tsoodle and Teresa Whitish; brothers, Gilbert Moses Sr., and Danny Moses Sr.; cousin, Willie Neil Moses; bumerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marya Jones-Moses and Walter Moses Sr.; brothers, Walter Moses Jr., (killed in action in Korea) and Victor H Moses Sr.; grandparents, William Bill Jones and Nancy Boomhouse-Jones and William Billy Moses and Julie Moses; six nephews and five nieces. Raymond was one like no other. He was a Veteran, storyteller, flirt, charmer, teacher, joker and warrior for his people. He will be missed by all who loved him dearly. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith Service to follow at 6:00 PM at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Tulalip Gym with burial to follow at Priest Point Cemetery.

Merle Williams Sr. (1934 – 2017)

 

October 6, 1934-January 20, 2017 Merle Williams Sr. was born on October 6, 1934 in a log cabin in Concrete, Washington and went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2017. He attended Concrete High School home of the Lions and graduated with the class of 1952. After graduating from high school at the age of 17, he started working at the cement plant in Concrete. He was a commercial fisherman; construction worker; bank teller; worked in Sauk Suiattle; worked in orchards in Eastern Washington; owned and operated his own landscaping business; and he did painting and varnishing. His main occupation was that of a pastor where he traveled the US and Canada, ministering to our Native people and other nationalities. He and Rose started dating in 1957 and were married on May 4, 1957. One month later he was drafted into the Army. He returned home in May of 1959. Merle and Rose have served as pastors since June of 1960. He is survived by his children, Merle (Debbie) Williams Jr., Nadine Williams, Michael (Paulencia) Williams, and Tena Williams; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn Rock; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith Service to follow at 6:00 PM at the Tulalip Gym. Orland Kenneth Paul (1937 – 2017)

 

April 19, 1937 – January 5, 2017 Orland was born April 19, 1937 in Tulalip, Washington to Matthew and Amanda (Hall) Paul, passing on to be with the Lord his savior peacefully on January 5, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Orland was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family and attending Husky basketball/football games with his kids and grandchildren. He was a devout Christian that had a heart of gold with a radiant smile who deeply loved his family. Orland made an impact on any and everyone that ever met him. He was loved by all, and he will be sorely missed. Orland was married to his soulmate and love of his life, Donna Lee (Herbst) Paul for over 53 years. Loving father to son, Stormmy Paul; daughter, Dusty (David) Blankenship; son, Carter Paul I; adopted son, Jeffrey Simpson (children); grandfather to Chelsea (Ryan) Miller, SummerLee Blankenship, David Blankenship II, Marlee Paul, Carter Paul II, Stormmy Blankenship, Haley Blankenship, Francis, Andrew, Kyler, Corbin, Baily and Halle; and great-grandfather to Cruz Santibanez II and Kingston Miller. In addition, Orland was an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, he had two biological children, Maureen and Sugar (Toni) Frank; and grandchildren, Chancey, Tobin, Marie in addition to multiple great-grandchildren and extended family Selva (Monica) Mudaliar. Orland is preceded in death by his son, Carter (“CLCP”) Paul; his parents, mother- and father-in-law, Victor and Dorthy Herbst; sisters-in-law, Victoria (Herbst) Goodman, Jackie (Herbst) Graham; nine siblings; grandaughter, Qua-Ba-Cud Frank; and nephew, Arnie Howard. Orland was a proud tribal member of the Tulalip Tribes, U.S. Army Veteran, and member of the Carpenter’s Union. He was an avid coach with South Kitsap Little League and Pee-Wee Football, where he coached with his son Stormmy. His occupations in life include: Contractor, Carpenter, Fisherman, and lastly Casino Poker Dealer/ Floor Supervisor/Manager for the Tulalip Casino.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an interfaith service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Isadore “Dobie” Tom Jr.

Isadore Tom Jr. Tsum-ta-lano #1 Aug. 7, 1941 – Dec. 17, 2016 Isadore “Dobie” Tom Jr., Tulalip Tribal Member of Sedro-Woolley, WA, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2016. Daniel Eugene Queen (1970 – 2016)

 

 

Daniel Eugene Queen known as Sauki, was born February 8, 1970, to Troy and Kathleen Queen in Portland, Oregon. Daniel entered into rest peacefully in the morning hours of December 15, 2016. Daniel grew up in Tulalip, WA, and was a well-known Tulalip Tribal member. Some of Daniel’s favorite hobbies included basketball, base-ball, and was a member of the Quil Ceda Muskrats. He enjoyed camping, going for rides, shopping, spending time with his huge family, and watching Seahawks games with his partner in crime, his dad, Troy. Daniel leaves behind his father, Troy Queen, his son, Aaron Price, his siblings, Michael Johnson, David (Darlene) Johnson, Donna Chambers, Karan Kurnick (Chuck), Kathy Story, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Daniel is preceded in death by his loving mother, Kathleen Queen, his brother, Gary Chambers; his aunts, Mary, Elsie, Yvonne, Barbara, Philomena; uncles Dick, Pat, Myron, John, and other extended relatives. James M. Enick (1975 – 2016)

 

James M. Enick James M. Enick (Tum Tum) 41 of Tulalip, WA, was born to Eddy Pablo Sr. And Cheryl Tovar on May 19, 1975, he went to be with the Lord on December 14, 2016. Some of the things James enjoyed was being a Barber, Fisherman, crabbing, construction work, watching football, gambling, cooking, working Boom City. most of all spending time with family and telling stories (family comedian). He leaves behind his daughters Taylor, Chantel; mother, Cheryl (Dan) Tovar, Lori Parks; brothers, Matthew, Roy (Ananda), Eddy Jr. (Sage), Dean (Darlena) Kanim (Shay), sisters, Ami (Charles), Tara and Leandra; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. What will be missed the most about James is his shared love, compassion, helping and entertaining family. Viewing will be on December 19, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Cecil Patrick Maahs (1941 – 2016)

 

Dec. 23, 1941 – Nov. 28, 2016 Pat was born on December 23, 1941 in Everett, Washington, the third son of Robert and Anita Maahs. He passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2016 with his wife by his side. Pat enjoyed spending time with his family, numerous grandchildren, going to baseball games, crabbing, fishing, hunting, camping, and selling fireworks at Boom City for 28 years. He worked at Tiz’s Door Sales for 35+ years of his carpentry career. He leaves behind his wife, Patty; his daughters, Tammy (Tim) Dehnhoff, Brenda (Don) Durand, Pam Dei; step-children, Ken Nobach, Lisa Nobach, and Michael Nobach; as well as fifteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Philemena (Joseph) Maahs; parents, Robert and Anita Maahs; three brothers, Jim, Robert, and William Maahs; and special Aunt and Uncle, Mona and Bill Lutz. Leota Lynette (Price) Pablo, 81 of Tulalip went to be with her Lord on November 11, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 25, 1935 in Tulalip, WA to William and Elsie Price. She worked for 35 years doing a number of jobs for the Tulalip Tribes including, Land Lease Administrator, Recording Secretary for the Tulalip Board; Tax Exempt File Clerk; Port Master at the Marina; and she was on the Tribal Enrollment Committee. She was an ordained minister, third elder and bishop in the Tulalip Full Gospel Shaker Church. Her side jobs were owning and operating a frybread stand, and selling fireworks, all while raising five boys. Some of the things she loved to do were weddings for people; praying for many people; as well as going to garage sales; getting apples and peaches from Wenatchee and Yakima for canning; playing bingo and going to the Casino. She was also a fill-in and extra for the CBS series – the Northern Exposure.
She is survived by her special auntie Lorraine Joseph; brother Gary Price; sister Sheila Price; children, Danny Sr. (Stephanie), Louie Sr., Jimmy, and Roger (Maxine) Pablo; daughter-in-law, Lori Parks; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren in both Washington and Montana; special grandchildren Dan Pablo Jr., and Michael Pablo Sr. whom she helped raise. She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Pablo Sr.; her parents; son, Eddie; sister June Ione Pablo; grandsons Louie III, Desmond Paul Pablo; great-grandson, Dontae Wayne Jones; and two children at birth; as well as all her 13 of her siblings.

Rodney “Glenn” Simpson Sr. was born on April 4, 1937, in Wallins Creek, Kentucky to Ada Thomas and Aubrey Simpson. Glenn joined his parents; grandparents; daughter, Sharon Kae; grand-daughters, Bridgette Simpson Martin and Lorena Comenote; his buddy, Cecil Lacy Sr. and many other relatives and friends, being surrounded by his family, on October 13, 2016. Glenn worked as an electrician; machinist, and a pit boss at the Tulalip Casino. He also worked in the Tulalip marketing department and finished his casino career in the surveillance department. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1954 – 1958, where he met his wife, Dawn and his brother, Lacy. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dawn; sister, Phyllis Lowe and her family of Port St. Lucie, Florida; children, Deb (Howard) Brown, Rod Simpson Jr; Renee (Todd) Olsen; Danny and Christy Simpson; April (Rocky) Brisbois; and Sjeabon Simpson and Jody Dover; 34 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 17, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Gym.

Brandon Wovoka Bryant (1976 – 2016)

Brandon Wovoka Bryant, 40, of Tulalip, Wash., passed away October 9, 2016. He was born January 12, 1976, in Stuttgart, Germany to Wilson Bryant and Karen Sheldon. He started working as a paperboy and did Summer work at the Fish Hatchery. He also worked as a blackjack dealer and craps table boxman at the Quilceda Creek Casino where he was affectionately called “Bubbles”. He is survived by his two sons, Tycen Scott Mekail Bryant and Aiden Charles Bryant; his mother, Karen and Morris Zackuse; his father, W.H. Bryant Jr.; brother, Morgan Bryant; sisters, Julie Wilson and Emily Wilson; uncles, William Sheldon and Byron Sheldon; aunts, Marlene Beltran and Lita (Jack) Mowrer; his good friend and caretaker, Kevin Sands; and numerous cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Ann Wilson; grandmother, Thelma Sheldon and Charlie “Red” Sheldon.
