Walter Paul Steinbach (1933 – 2017)

Walter Paul Steinbach, 83, of Tulalip, WA, died May 22, 2017, in his home. Walt was born May 24, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Walter and Ruby Steinbach. Walt was a commercial fisherman for over 50 years, fishing in the waters of Alaska and the Puget Sound in his beloved boat the Virginia M. He was a respected member of the Tulalip community and will be missed by all. Walt is preceded in death by Virginia Steinbach and Josephine Landert-Steinbach. Walt is survived by his children, Walt Steinbach Jr., Ed Steinbach, Carol Jones; six stepdaughters; seven grandchildren; 19 great children; one great-great grandchild; and many family members. A recitation of the Rosary and a funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Gym.

Victor D. Nelson Sr. (1956 – 2017)

Victor D. Nelson Sr. of Tulalip, WA, left us to be with our Lord on March 19, 2017. Victor was born in Tacoma, WA, on August 25, 1956, to Thomas and Fuiko Nelson. The oldest of six children, Victor worked at Tulalip Bingo as a Caller for over 20 years before he retired in 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Fuiko Abe Nelson; his brothers, Thomas and Patrick (Pickle) Nelson; his mother-in-law, Josephine M. Landert Steinbach; and one grandchild, Mikyla. He is survived by his first wife, Jodi Nelson and their son, Jason (Corey) Nelson; second wife of 28 years, Betty, and their children, Natasha Clark, Layla (Myron) Fryberg and Victor Nelson, Jr.; special niece (daughter) Jeanifer (Lupe) Flores; siblings, Robert, William and Debra Nelson; father-in-law, Walter P. Steinbach; seven sisters-in-law; one Very Special brother-in-law; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; many nephews and nieces; and many, many grandnephews and grand-nieces. The family would like to thank Providence Colby Campus for the care of Victor during his illness. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman with an Interfaith service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Mary Jane Jack (1942 – 2017)

February 3, 1942 – March 17, 2017 Mary Jane Jack, 75 of Tulalip passed away March 17, 2017. She was born February 3, 1942 in Darrington, WA to Jackson Harvey and Jessie Tommy. Mary was a master weaver, bead worker and knitter. She work at the Hatchery for 30 years and Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission. She was a teacher of Lushootseed language for the Sauk-Suiattle. She was an avid Seahawk fan. She travelled during the summer to various Pow Pows around the country. She is survived by her children, Rainey (Melissa) Jack Sr, Anderson Jack, Virginia (Matthew Charlie Sr.) Jack, and Timothy Jack; her sister, Rosie Kempf; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Windy Jack; sons, Peter Jack, Peter Jack II, and John Harvey Jack; and siblings, Helen Pierce, Violet Napoleon, Sally Moses, Paul Harvey and Casper Harvey. Jennifer Violet “Jen-Jen” Fryberg Obituary

 

Jennifer Violet “Jen-Jen” Fryberg, 24, of Tulalip, WA, went to be with the love of her life, Tyler Edwards, while being surrounded by her family. She was born September 16, 1992, in Everett, WA to Dean “Diz” Fryberg Jr. and Kathryn Cavender. During high school she was an honor student and during her senior year she choose to join her spiritual life of Seion in Swinomish and followed through and received her GED. She went to college at Northwest Indian College where she studied the Lashootseed language. She enjoyed debating with her college professors. She followed in her father’s footsteps, and at the age of eight fell in love the life of Seion and entered into a huge family in Swinomish with Chester and Polly Cayou as her special parents. Her childhood soul sisters who loved to laugh with her were Shylee Burke, Christina Williams, Dawn Spencer, Alanna Williams, Desiree Dumont and Rilla Jones, and special godson, Francis “Bub” Hatch. She is survived by her parents, Dean “Diz” Fryberg Jr. And Kathryn Cavender; siblings, David (June) Caven-dar, Michael Thompson, Joshua (Danielle) Fryberg, Ashley Harrison, J.D. Fryberg, Danika (Aurelia Keo) Hatch-Aguilar, Deanne Fryberg, Trevor (Cassandra Jimicum) Fryberg, Rocky (Stephanie) Harrison, Tabatha Fagundas, and Nate Hatch; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman with an Interfaith Service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Neil Vincent LeClaire (1934 – 2017)

 

March 25, 1934 – March 13, 2017 Neil Vincent LeClaire, 82, of Everett, WA, made the journey to his Creator. Neil was born in Tulalip, WA. A proud member of the Tulalip Tribes of Washington. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1953. During the summer he went to a logging camp to work with the “big boys”, and then attended Seattle Pacific University for a year to study Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, Colleen Jean Simons in 1954. They had two beautiful children, Christopher Neil LeClaire and Michelle Martha LeClaire.

Neil proudly served in the Army (Korea) from 1956-1958. He concluded his tour in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1962. He worked for Weyerhaeuser Mills for 37 years, ending his employment as a Journeyman Electrician when the mill closed. He was an active member of the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers Union as Chairman of Health and Welfare. In 1989, he was surprised to fall in love with Sharon Lee Greenhalgh. He acquired two wonderful step-children, Troy Alan Greenhalgh and Cari Dawn Greenhalgh. Neil and Sharon were partners for 28 years, married for 18.

Neil belonged to many pistol, rifle and archery ranges for many years where hr enjoyed trap and target shooting with the fellas. He watched every sport and played many as well. He loved to camp with his family and travel. He had many hobbies and could plan and engineer just about any problem you gave him. He loved to support his children, step-children, and grandchildren in all their many endeavors. He impacted the lives of many people with his care and support. Neil was a generous man who was willing to help others without reservation and had a strong work ethic that was admired by all. He was ambitious and always up for an adventure. Neil was a devoted son, father, husband, grandfather and friend.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln Napoleon LeClaire and Martha “Mamie” Alma (Hatch) LeClaire; his first wife, Colleen Jean (Simons) LeClaire; as well as additional family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Greenhalgh) LeClaire; his two children, Chistopher (Linda) LeClaire and Michelle LeClaire; step-children, Troy (Amy) Greenhalgh and Cari (Rob) Dahl; and beloved grand-children, McKenna, Eli, Greyson Dahl and Shelby Greenhalgh; half siblings, David Daniel Spencer Sr., Robert Spencer, Charles Spencer, Mildred Spencer and Vivian Spencer; and cousins, Donald “Penoke” Hatch Jr., Ilene (Chuck) James, Cynie (Max) McGee, and Sally Prouty.

Funeral Services were held Monday, March 20, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Gym with burial following at Mission Beach Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory to USO, Disabled American Vets, or a charity of your choice.

Raymond Cassimere Moses (1930 – 2017)

 

“TE-AT-MUS” February 20, 1930-March 2, 2017 Honorable Korean Veteran, passed away March 2, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born February 20, 1930 to loving parents Marya Jones-Moses and Walter Moses Sr. He was a Member of the Tulalip Tribes. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1950. In high school he joined the National Guard. In the heat of summer, he would travel to Yakima for training. His brother, Walter Moses Jr., soon followed in his footsteps. In 1950 he enlisted in the US Army serving in the Korean War with his brother (who lost his life). He was awarded the Purple Heart and many other medals. After serving he would always say “I know I’m going to Heaven, because I’ve already been to hell”. After being Honorably discharged, he came home and worked as a commercial fisherman with his cousin, Bernie Gobin and then with his mother. Through his life he worked many other jobs, cutting shake boards, logging, Welco Lumber Co., Tulalip ground maintenance, where he kept the Tulalip Cemeteries’ beautiful. And finally as Tribal Historian because he wanted to share his culture and teachings to the children. He was requested by many schools to go and teach the history of our people. He loved to travel to the mountains, play bingo, go to the casinos and attend pow-wows. He enjoyed watching and going to sporting events. Most of all he loved teasing the ladies! He is survived by sisters, Johanna Moses, Rachel Hood, April Smith, Julie Russell, Vickie Tsoodle and Teresa Whitish; brothers, Gilbert Moses Sr., and Danny Moses Sr.; cousin, Willie Neil Moses; bumerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marya Jones-Moses and Walter Moses Sr.; brothers, Walter Moses Jr., (killed in action in Korea) and Victor H Moses Sr.; grandparents, William Bill Jones and Nancy Boomhouse-Jones and William Billy Moses and Julie Moses; six nephews and five nieces. Raymond was one like no other. He was a Veteran, storyteller, flirt, charmer, teacher, joker and warrior for his people. He will be missed by all who loved him dearly. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith Service to follow at 6:00 PM at the Tulalip Gym. Merle Williams Sr. (1934 – 2017)

 

October 6, 1934-January 20, 2017 Merle Williams Sr. was born on October 6, 1934 in a log cabin in Concrete, Washington and went home to be with the Lord on January 20, 2017. He attended Concrete High School home of the Lions and graduated with the class of 1952. After graduating from high school at the age of 17, he started working at the cement plant in Concrete. He was a commercial fisherman; construction worker; bank teller; worked in Sauk Suiattle; worked in orchards in Eastern Washington; owned and operated his own landscaping business; and he did painting and varnishing. His main occupation was that of a pastor where he traveled the US and Canada, ministering to our Native people and other nationalities. He and Rose started dating in 1957 and were married on May 4, 1957. One month later he was drafted into the Army. He returned home in May of 1959. Merle and Rose have served as pastors since June of 1960. He is survived by his children, Merle (Debbie) Williams Jr., Nadine Williams, Michael (Paulencia) Williams, and Tena Williams; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn Rock; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith Service to follow at 6:00 PM at the Tulalip Gym. Orland Kenneth Paul (1937 – 2017)

 

April 19, 1937 – January 5, 2017 Orland was born April 19, 1937 in Tulalip, Washington to Matthew and Amanda (Hall) Paul, passing on to be with the Lord his savior peacefully on January 5, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Orland was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family and attending Husky basketball/football games with his kids and grandchildren. He was a devout Christian that had a heart of gold with a radiant smile who deeply loved his family. Orland made an impact on any and everyone that ever met him. He was loved by all, and he will be sorely missed. Orland was married to his soulmate and love of his life, Donna Lee (Herbst) Paul for over 53 years. Loving father to son, Stormmy Paul; daughter, Dusty (David) Blankenship; son, Carter Paul I; adopted son, Jeffrey Simpson (children); grandfather to Chelsea (Ryan) Miller, SummerLee Blankenship, David Blankenship II, Marlee Paul, Carter Paul II, Stormmy Blankenship, Haley Blankenship, Francis, Andrew, Kyler, Corbin, Baily and Halle; and great-grandfather to Cruz Santibanez II and Kingston Miller. In addition, Orland was an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, he had two biological children, Maureen and Sugar (Toni) Frank; and grandchildren, Chancey, Tobin, Marie in addition to multiple great-grandchildren and extended family Selva (Monica) Mudaliar. Orland is preceded in death by his son, Carter (“CLCP”) Paul; his parents, mother- and father-in-law, Victor and Dorthy Herbst; sisters-in-law, Victoria (Herbst) Goodman, Jackie (Herbst) Graham; nine siblings; grandaughter, Qua-Ba-Cud Frank; and nephew, Arnie Howard. Orland was a proud tribal member of the Tulalip Tribes, U.S. Army Veteran, and member of the Carpenter’s Union. He was an avid coach with South Kitsap Little League and Pee-Wee Football, where he coached with his son Stormmy. His occupations in life include: Contractor, Carpenter, Fisherman, and lastly Casino Poker Dealer/ Floor Supervisor/Manager for the Tulalip Casino.

Isadore “Dobie” Tom Jr.

Isadore Tom Jr. Tsum-ta-lano #1 Aug. 7, 1941 – Dec. 17, 2016 Isadore “Dobie” Tom Jr., Tulalip Tribal Member of Sedro-Woolley, WA, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2016. Funeral services will be today, December 22, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Tulalip Tribal Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

 

Daniel Eugene Queen (1970 – 2016)

 

 

Daniel Eugene Queen known as Sauki, was born February 8, 1970, to Troy and Kathleen Queen in Portland, Oregon. Daniel entered into rest peacefully in the morning hours of December 15, 2016. Daniel grew up in Tulalip, WA, and was a well-known Tulalip Tribal member. Some of Daniel’s favorite hobbies included basketball, base-ball, and was a member of the Quil Ceda Muskrats. He enjoyed camping, going for rides, shopping, spending time with his huge family, and watching Seahawks games with his partner in crime, his dad, Troy. Daniel leaves behind his father, Troy Queen, his son, Aaron Price, his siblings, Michael Johnson, David (Darlene) Johnson, Donna Chambers, Karan Kurnick (Chuck), Kathy Story, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Daniel is preceded in death by his loving mother, Kathleen Queen, his brother, Gary Chambers; his aunts, Mary, Elsie, Yvonne, Barbara, Philomena; uncles Dick, Pat, Myron, John, and other extended relatives. Visitation will be held on December 20, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with a Shaker service to follow at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be December 21, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Tulalip Tribal Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.
