James Douglas “JD” Fryberg, 29, went peacefully in his sleep to be with our Lord on May 11, 2018, in Walla Walla, WA. JD was born December 7, 1988 in Everett, WA, to Gina Harrison and Dean Fryberg Jr. He was a loving, caring and adventurous soul. He grew up in Tulalip, Washington constantly surrounded by his family and friends. He had two children whom he loved and cherished very much, Tarynn Fryberg and Autumn Fryberg. He was so proud of his children. Throughout recent years, JD connected with his Native culture and became a grass dancer. He loved the Powwows he was able to participate in and danced with heart. JD also gained a passion for art that included drawing and beading. He was an amazing artist and made beautiful pieces for his family. No matter what JD was going through, he would make sure everyone else was doing ok. He constantly provided encouragement and support to family and friends to follow the right path and make a good life. JD always wanted everyone to know how much he loved them. He is survived by his children, Tarynn Fryberg and Autumn Fryberg; parents, Gina Harrison and Theseus Jones and Dean “Dizzy” Fryberg Jr. and Kathryn Cavendar; Siblings, Josh (Danielle) Fryberg, Ashley Harrison, Danika (Aurelia) Hatch-Aguilar, Deanne Fryberg, Rocky (Stephanie) Harrison, Tabatha Fagundes, Trevor (Cierra) Fryberg, David (June) Cavendar, Michael “Dub” Thompson; Grandpa Dean Fryberg Sr., Richard Madison; Great-grand-parents, Glen and Lee Parks; Special Aunt, Deedee Parks, Special Uncle, Alex Salinas and also numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles cousins and all his special brothers. JD is preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Fryberg; Grandmothers, Charmaine Harrison and Betty Henry; Grandfather, Frank Madison Sr.; Uncle, Hanford James Sr.; Aunties, MaryLou Williams and Lois “LouLou” Jones, Great-Granparents, Violet “Speedy Parks and Orville Harrison. JD will be missed by all and is now in Heaven rejoicing with his loved ones. Visitation will be May 17, 2018, from 1pm-2pm at the Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. sta-gwa-letsa #1 Rose Margie Kempf-Harvey was born on June 4, 1944, in Darrington, WA, and passed away May 3, 2018, in Everett, WA. She was born to Jackson and Jessie Harvey and was the youngest of seven children. Rose helped the Sauk-Suiattle Tribe get federally recognized and was involved in initiating the ICW Act. She was a fisherwoman and was the first one to fish on the Sauk River. She loved the Seahawks, Mariners, picking berries, canning, and traveling to Hawaii. Rose also had her own Fry Bread stand, “Rosie’s Fry Bread and Indian Tacos.” Rose was also head cook for different spiritual ceremonies. She leaves behind her children, Lila Pierce, Donald Kempf Jr., Edward Kempf, Marvin Kempf, and Angie Thurbush, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kempf Sr.; mother, Jessie T. Harvey, father, Jackson Harvey; brother, Paul Harvey; as well as Sally Moses, Violet Napoleon, Helen Pierce, Mary Jack, Jasper Harvey, Brandon Kempf, and Violet Pierce. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home. Interfaith services will be at 6 p.m. that same evening at the Tulalip Gym. Helen Lucille Fenrich “Woman Warrior”, 66 of Tulalip, WA, went to be with her creator on January 31, 2018 with her family by her side. She was born March 29, 1951 in Everett, Washington to Elliott and Arlene Brown. She worked for the Tulalip Tribes for over 45 years in many positions advocating for our children, treaty rights, and overall best interest of all Tribal people. Her expertise as a Policy Analyst Liaison taught many who worked with her to be a fierce advocate never giving up on their battles to protect the children. She worked with three governors, Gregoire, Locke, and Inslee earning their respect. Helen’s boys, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews always came 1st! Her goal was to keep her family together, for them to be successful, and have a good life. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Alan; eight boys, Vincent Hatch, Tony Hatch, Alan Fenrich Jr., Austin Brown, Kedryn Hatch, Danny Fenrich, Tayler Hatch, and Jesse Hatch; four siblings, Carol Davis, Wayne Brown, Richard Brown, Elliot Brown Jr., three aunties, Anita “Keeta” Sheldon, Maxine Williams and Lorraine Hatch; and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by numerous family members. A visitation will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman with an Interfaith service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

Joseph “JoJo” Duane Dias, 68 of Tulalip, WA, went to be with his creator on January 17, 2018. He is now with his wife, Noma Dias; his son, Joseph Jr., and his other siblings. He was born September 2, 1949 in Tacoma, WA, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a commercial fisherman. JoJo was the eldest of the family and the rock that held them together. JoJo is survived by his daughter, Tanya (Jeff) Tompkins; siblings, Bobby Dias, Bruce Dias, Cat Berrey, and Debbie Habitch; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with an Interfaith Service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

Raymond Wallace Paul Sr., 62 of Tulalip, WA, went to be with his creator on January 1, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born February 5, 1955 to Wallace and Arlene Paul in Toppenish, WA and was a member of the Yakama Nation. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; his children, Princess, Ray Jr., Mildred, and Arletia; siblings, Cynthia Powderface, Beatrice Kahama, Christopher Paul, Byron Lloyd, and Stephen Lloyd; eight grandchildren, Arlene, Aniyaha, Little Wanda, Bradley, Brian, Cecelia, Koda, and Gabriel; and numerous nephews and nieces. A funeral service was held Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville, WA. There will be all night services held at the Toppenish Longhouse at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Burial will be held January 5, 2018 at sunrise at the Yesmowit Cemetery in White Swan.

Loretta Ethel James was born on December 15, 1929, and entered into rest on December 25, 2017, surrounded by all her children and family. She attended Marysville Schools; Martha Lake School in Seattle; and was given the opportunity to attend the University of Washingtonunder the direction of Professor Ralph Johnson for the American Indian Court Judges Association Training, through the Swinomish Tribe. She successfully completed and became a Tribal Court Judge. Other positions and employments Loretta had were Community Action Program Aide; Chief Judge for the Swinomish and Puyallup Tribes; Associate Judge for the Tulalip Tribes, Suquamish Tribe, Lummi Nation; and Squaxin Tribe; Resident Aide at Tulalip Housing; served on the Tulalip Enrollment Committee; served as past Chairman of the Tulalip Elders Committee. She was an active inspiration in helping organize the NAIWA – the National American Indian Women’s Association. Loretta while serving as judge in Swinomish, actively participated in the 1974 case of the Boldt Decision, heard through the US District Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. As judge she also was hearing cases on Indian Child Welfare. She was a major advocate for members in Tulalip, Lummi, Swinomish, Puyallup, Suquamish, and Squaxin tribes. She fought to get their children back. Her last position was the Boom City Magistrate. She is survived by her seven children, Marie (Gene) Zackuse, Harold (Dolly) Joseph Jr., LeRoy (Judy) Joseph, Kenneth Joseph, Karen (Cy) Fryberg, Judy (Tony) Gobin, and Carmen (John) Burke all of Tulalip; siblings, LeRoy (Skooky) and Lila Henry of Tulalip, Annette Napeahi, of Tulalip, Mary Jo James of Tulalip, Eugene Henry of Swinomish, and Virginia Bill of Tacoma; step children, Charles James Jr., Leonard James, and Mark James; 28 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Joseph Sr., and Charles J. James Sr.; brothers, Oliver Henry, Woodworth Henry, Morey Henry, Duane Henry, Hanford Henry and Patrick Henry; sisters Donna Cooper, Betty Lou Henry and Patricia Cheer; and grandson, Michael Lee Joseph. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with a Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Tulalip Gym. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Tulalip Gym with burial to follow at Mission Beach Cemetery.

July 25, 1962 – November 9, 2017 In celebration of the life of Adrian S. Henry Sr who was born July 25, 1962 and went to be with Jesus on November 9, 2017. Adrian was a man of God who loved to read the Word. He always enjoyed spending time with his family. He was always ready to be a helping hand to them. Adrian was a dedicated table games manager of the Tulalip Casino for over 10 years. His passion was working on the water with his boys crabbing, fishing and diving. He also worked on the construction of the Tulalip Casino and Resort. He dedicated his life to Jesus at the age of 27. He loved to minister the Word of God. He faithfully supported with pledging every month to support of Israel for the Jews. He leaves a big legacy, the love of his life, wife, Marilyn; his children, Adrian Jr., John (Tije), Zachary, Zanetta, Tasheina, Kanim (Shaelynn), Joseph, Kashiss; grandchildren, Andrew, Alisianna, Javohn, Christopher, Zahmarei, Brianna, Raeanna, Scarlett, Malik. Adrian went to meet his loves ones, John and Barbara Henry; brother, Randall; sister, Louise; son, Diandre; other aunts, uncles, and most of all he gets to be with his Jesus Christ. The family would love to extend their gratitude to all who lent a hand in taking care of him. Sept. 20, 1965 – Nov. 7, 2017 She was born in Seattle, WA to Ray and Nellie Price. Elsie Mae was a free spirit who loved to wander, she also enjoyed the outdoors hunting, camping, and walking with no destination in sight. She was always grateful for a home cooked meal and a place to lay her head. She would never leave your home without helping you in some way. She was a giver, if she had something to give you she would hand it right over. She will be remembered for her witty personality, her crazy laughter, and her heart of gold. She was beautiful inside and out. She could make anyone laugh. She is survived by her daughters, Jodi Brown, Tiffany Enick, Toneena (Nina) Gobin, Marie Myers; and her baby boy, Nathan Myers; brothers, Ray Price Jr., Bobby Wah-chum-wah; sister, Melinda Enick; aunt, Sheila Price; and uncle, Gary Price; stepmother, Lillian Price; stepsiblings, Cherie, Dennis, Phyllis, Tom, Leigh, Mike, Earlene, Claire; special cousins, Charles Hill (Sue), Carol Bumgarner and the Hill girls, June, Sandra, Danielle, Chaz, Karolyn, and Charlie. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Ray Price; and mother, Nellie Price; sister, Violet Price; brother, Johnny Price; and beloved son, Johnny Enick. She will be missed dearly by many who knew and loved her. Beatrice Evelyn (Wold) Batt, 89, of Fort Bend County, Texas passed away on November 1, 2017 at her residence. She was born September 4, 1928 in Seattle, Washington. She was an avid sports fan, always ready to cheer on the Houston Astros and the Texans. She enjoyed fishing and taking trips to test her luck on the slot machines. Beatrice was an agent with Allstate Insurance for 15 years. She will be truly missed.
Beatrice is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Batt; and her daughter, Deborah Calnan.In addition to her parents, Severin Wold Sr. and Beatrice Dunn Wold . Her Grandparents, Thomas Dunn and Johanna Seybert Sheldon-Dunn. Her brothers, Severin Sam Wold Jr., William Wold.  Survivors include Steven Calnan and fiancée, Brianna Guess (children – Wyatt, Debra and Emma); sister, Karol Igou; Nieces, Shannon Huff, and Kathy Bivens (Daughters of William Wold); along with other family and friends.

Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.
