
Herbert Earl Spires, known affectionately as Herb, passed away March 7, 2026, in Marysville, Washington, at the age of 78. He was born February 29, 1948, in Gallipolis, Ohio.
Herb served in the United States Army and later spent many years working as a long-haul truck driver, traveling across the country. He enjoyed the open road and spending time at one of his favorite places, Donna’s Truck Stop.
A man of few words with a sharp wit, Herb was known for his protective and loving nature toward his family.
He is survived by his wife, Valda Gobin; daughters Donna Kneeland (Kym), Cyndi, and Brandi; son Doug Sakshaug (Gayle); grandchildren Shaelyn Smead (Dilan), Collin Hood (Jessica), Alec Hood (Jasmine), Madelyn Edwards, Avalyn Kneeland, Chloe Sakshaug, Aubrey, and Dane; and great-grandchildren Dayton, Ty, Barrett, Levi, and Emery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rita and Floyd Barber; brothers Richard and Rodger Barber; and nephews Teddy and Chad Orr.
A funeral service will be held March 16, 2026, at the Tulalip Gathering Hall. Arrangements are under the care of Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.SEE LESS
